Rainwater Recycling Made Easy
By Urban Zero Garden Team•December 2024

Collecting rainwater is one of the most effective ways to reduce water consumption and create a sustainable water source for your garden.
Benefits of Rainwater Collection
Rainwater is naturally soft, free of chlorine, and perfect for plants. A typical rooftop can collect thousands of gallons annually, significantly reducing your water bills.
System Components
You'll need a collection barrel, gutter connection, filter, overflow valve, and optional pump. Even a simple 50-liter barrel can make a big difference.
Installation Tips
Position barrels on a stable platform near downspouts. Elevate them for gravity-fed water pressure. Always use a screen to keep debris and mosquitoes out.
What You'll Need
- Rain barrel (50-200 liters)
- Gutter diverter kit
- Mesh screen filter
- Overflow hose
- Spigot for water access
Pro Tips
- Clean gutters before rainy season
- Use collected water within 7-10 days to prevent stagnation
- In winter, drain barrels to prevent freezing damage
- Add a few drops of vegetable oil to prevent mosquito breeding
